Understanding the Distinction : Business E-mails vs. Business Letters
Difference Between Business E-mail & Business Letter :
According to the sources I read, the main difference between business email and business letter is the media and format. A business letter is a formal printed document that is usually sent by post or courier to the recipient, and follows a strict formal format including elements such as letterhead, date, recipient address, and physical signature. Business letters are very often used for official matters such as job applications or formal requests, and are usually kept as physical records.
On the other hand, business email is a digital communication medium that is sent electronically via the internet. The format is faster, more efficient, and more flexible, although it still maintains its professional tone. Emails usually include a subject line, greeting, body, and closing, and may also include attachments. Email is widely used for business interactions in everyday activities because of its convenience and low cost.
